Promhills Cabins

Accommodation at Wilsons Promontory

Have you ever seen a Campdraft event?

A few times per year (normally in February and/or March) there is a Campdraft held at the Yanakie Recreation Reserve, behind the Yanakie Hall and playground, just a short 5 minute walk from Promhills Cabins. If you are here when it's on, be sure to wander down and have a look. The riders and organisers welcome onlookers and are happy to answer questions about campdrafting and/or explain the rules to interested tourists. Basically, a rider on horseback, must choose a single calf from a group and guide that calf around a series of posts/trees/makers in a set configuration in the quickest possible time. It takes great horsemanship and skill to be able to control a horse to manoeuvre a calf through the course.

There is often a (family friendly) dinner held following a day's campdraft where non-drafters are welcome. Minimal cost and it's a lovely meal, normally a roast + desert. If you're here where when this is on, we will definitely let you know as it's a great way to immerse yourself in some country atmosphere and mingle with the locals.

Below are some photos I took at the last Yanakie Campdraft in February 2015 or have a look at the Gippsland Campdraft Association's photos published on Facebook, taken at the same event here:
