Wilsons Promontory Fire

The Wilsons Promontory National Park bushfire started by a lightning strike on 8 February 2009.

The fire burnt approximately half of the park, however, most of this is in unaccessible terrain and the park's assests and most popular areas (Tidal River, Squeaky Beach, Norman Bay) were not affected. The park re-opened to the public on Saturday 21st March 2009.

The below map shows the fire's path, however, the fire burned in a mosaic pattern and as you can see from the below photos, there still remains a lot of green in amongst the burnt areas.

We will be updating this page with regrowth photos as we visit the park on a regular basis. Visit this page again soon, if you can't make it in person, to witness Wilsons Prom being re-born!
